Tarner Trustees

 

Meet the Tarner Community Project committed, skilled board of trustees who oversee governance, financial stability and strategic direction for the charity. Trustees meet bi-monthly to support the CEO to ensure the charity meets its objectives and make progress with future endeavours. Trustees are from a mix of charity and corporate sectors and bring their expertise to the organisation on a voluntary basis and therefore this work is unpaid.

Ruth has worked at the Brighton Dome as their Director of People & Culture, Prior to that she worked for 19 years with Brighton & Hove City Council as the HR Business Partner supporting the Housing and Adult Social Care. She knows the Tarner neighbourhood and the city of Brighton.

Tom Goulden

Tom is a local parent to Tarner with a 20+ years youth work career. His trustee role revolves around supporting the Youth and participation work that Tarner offer to the community. With years of dedicated work alongside young people on street art projects Tom will be found at most events supporting Tarner on their youth arts offer.

Julia Harrison

Julia has been working within the Charity sector for over 30 years and recently left YMCA DownsLink Group after 19 years where she became their Head of Safeguarding following managing and developing their Youth Advice Centres across Sussex. She is a qualified and Social Work England registered Social Worker and prior to working for the YMCA her background was within the substance misuse and housing fields.  She is extremely passionate about supporting and providing opportunities for children, young people and their families to reach their potential.  She has lived and worked in Brighton and Sussex since 2000.

Ruth has been a journalist for 18 years and worked on weekly and regional daily papers before moving to The Press Association, the UK and Ireland’s leading news agency. Her work has appeared in The Independent, The Guardian, The Sun, The Mirror, the Metro, Red Bull, Sky and BT.com. For the past three years she has worked as a freelance journalist, copywriter, PR manager and social media strategist/manager working clients including charities, a children’s rights advocate, and fashion and food brands. She moved to Brighton 15 years ago where she lives with her husband and three children.

Julie is a freelance bookkeeper and qualified Teacher. She worked with London Inner City Children as both a Teacher and Parent Governor and then moved to Bookkeeping for Small Companies and Charities in South London and Brighton. She is dedicated to sharing skills by working closely with dynamic projects that have a positive influence in children’s lives.
